DESCRIPTION

When you think of modern bass tone, this is the tone that you're most likely thinking of. The EMG 40DC active bass pickups redefined what we think of when it comes to bass tone, setting the standard for countless recordings and live performances across multiple genres.

That's for two reasons. First, these are true active pickups. They have an internal preamp that helps boost their signal. And with that comes a series of benefits: they retain their clarity across long cable runs and have a super low noise floor.

From a tone perspective, they cover a wider frequency range than most passive designs. You get lower lows and higher highs, plus that characteristic punch and percussive impact combined with an output that's on the higher end.

This extended range has made them a staple of heavier genres where you need to tune lower than the standard EADG tuning. Whether you're dropping to D or going even lower, the 40DC maintains clarity and definition that passive pickups often lose in those frequency ranges. This 5-string set accommodates any string spacing due to its bar magnets, making it a versatile upgrade for virtually any bass.

EMG's approach to active pickup design focuses on consistency and reliability. The internal preamp ensures that your tone stays consistent regardless of cable length, venue acoustics, or the quality of your signal chain. This makes them particularly valuable for touring musicians who need predictable results night after night.

The 40DC's frequency response is carefully tuned to provide maximum impact in a mix. The extended low end gives you the foundation you need for modern music, while the enhanced high-frequency response ensures that your attack and articulation cut through dense arrangements. The midrange is present but not overpowering, allowing the pickup to work well across different musical styles.

Installation is straightforward, with EMG's solderless wiring system making the process accessible even for players who aren't comfortable with traditional pickup swaps. The system includes everything you need for a complete installation, including the battery clip and output jack.

The build quality reflects EMG's decades of experience in active pickup design. The sealed construction protects the internal electronics from moisture and temperature changes.

Whether you're playing metal, rock, funk, or any style that demands clarity and punch, the EMG 40DC delivers the modern bass tone that has defined countless classic recordings and continues to set the standard for active pickup performance.

Exactly what I was looking for.

First off I want to say thanks to Fat Bass Tone for helping me get the right pickup, I ordered the wrong size EMG at first and they allowed me to exchange it for this one.

I got this for pickup for my dean ML bass and it gave me the exact tone that I've been looking for. I play death metal and it's various subgenres and needed a solid tone that's very heavy on the low end but also clear and bright on the top with punchy mids. This pickup does the trick very well and can cut through a dense noisy mix.

Install was headache free and straight forward besides for the wire that connects the pot to the jack was about an inch or so too short. This is because my bass is oddly shaped and large so the distance from the input jack to the electronic cavity is farther than usual. EMG has the wire in different lengths on their website so it's an easy fix if you run into the problem.

Overall I'm very satisfied with this pickup and also the service here at FBT, will definitely do business again in the future!
