5 String Precision Bass Pickups

Precision Bass® (P Bass®) pickups exhibit diverse stylistic variations, with manufacturers offering different windings to achieve specific tonal characteristics. Some models aim for authentic vintage tone by employing the same materials and winding techniques used in early bass production. Others explore different tones.

Fortunately, the majority of 5 string P Bass® pickups generally conform to two distinct and easily recognizable shapes:

• Equal size shells - both shells roughly 2.62” (66.55mm) total length.  These are the same size as 4 string P bass pickups

• American Standard (AS) - shells NOT equal size.  Fender has used the combo of one shell that is the same as a single side of the 4 string P bass shell(~2.62") and another shell that is slightly longer (3.2")

We've categorized our 5 String P Bass® pickups into four distinct tone voices: Vintage Era Correct, New Vintage, Modern, and High Output. However, precise categorization can be challenging due to overlapping characteristics. For instance, a pickup designed for vintage tone might also feature higher output, making it difficult to definitively place within the "Era Correct Vintage" category. Such pickups often find a suitable place within the "New Vintage" and "High Output" categories. Therefore, some pickups may exhibit characteristics that align with multiple categories.
