Nordstrand Tone Drop + passive harness

Ordered a passive harness with a Nordstrand Tone Drop (V-V-T) for my Reverend Mercalli 5 FM, and it is fantastic! High quality components, and the Tone Drop gives some nice tonal flexibility with having two different options for cap values. Switching between the two cap value "modes" with the Tone Drop is smooth and easy, and offers some great flexibility on the fly. Highly recommend this product!

Nordsrtand creats a tone knob that works

I chose the tone drop because I wanted to maintain a passive tone without spending a great deal of cash. This option has struck the sweet spot between a tonestyler and an active preamp. All of the marketing rhetoric aside, this is a tone pot that allows you to select (via push/pull technology) which frequency you want to play with; .1uf or .047uf. The results for me were very noticeable and appreciated. I added the pot to my fretless jazz bass and the tone is much sweeter than with the stock pots in place. I think it would make an even larger splash if installed in a fretted bass, which I may try for a friend's bass in the near future. I would recommend giving this a go if you're curious about what lies between stock pots and a battery powered rig.
Also of note, I ordered the tone drop along with the prewired set of pots/jack offered by Fat Bass Tone, and requested it to replace the standard pot included. I was very impressed with the quality work, and timely shipping. This was the best way I could have added the tone drop to my arsenal. Thanks and shout out to Max for the excellent work!

DESCRIPTION

This .047uf-.1uf cap switch is an orange, two headed monitor lizard that speaks a simple, southrange grit atop a subtle, simmering murk. Just as the heart might subtly react with ancestral repulsion at the sight of an ancient reptile vibrating intensely just above the stream, so too does this twinned switch deliver an equal bite of private phenomenon. It provides a convenient way for players to navigate a space between the temperate and traditional character called .047uf, and its slightly more dramatic and swampier sibling called .1uf. More specifically, the .047uf allows remnants of the high end to beam through; and if perceived by the player as not so tangible a thing as a direct beam, then perhaps more like memories of the egg days leaking into the mind of an incapacitated dragon doggypaddling the bayou. In the case of the .1uf cap, it is the hand that yanks the Thing just beneath the bright-bound surface. Everything capitulates an electric, light-drowned mud, and in this darkening forms the aperture through which you might dig, with intention, into the flow of the tune. Dive toward the murk.

Hint: besides these two characteristics, we invite you to seek the resonant peak—an ephemeral ridge as vibrational as it is dissipative. Instructions: roll off all caps to enable an understanding between the two, and allow the signal to flow through your rig with only a sliver of viscera painting its fullbodied back. This is the road to the peak. Follow it wisely. If you dare to look over, don’t hesitate. React. Whiptail! Like a lizard.

TECHNICAL

  • 250k Push-Pull Potentiometer
