Italian-made and famous for their ultralight carbon fiber cabs, GR Bass has built a reputation for innovative design and exceptional build quality. Typically, when you choose an amp, it falls into one of two camps: lots of character and a distinct voice. Think the classic amps paired with 8x10 cabs or flip-top tube amps; or they fall into the super accurate category, giving you your tone just louder with some EQ thrown in.
Both options are great tools, but the folks at GR Bass wondered, why not have both in the same amp? Enter the Groove 800.
The GR Groove 800 has 800 watts of power to give you enough volume and headroom for any stage, as well as the usual amenities you'd expect from modern amps such as a studio-grade DI, effects loop, and a handy EQ section. What sets it apart is its 12AX7 tube preamp and, most importantly, its ability to completely bypass it via its "pure" switch. What this gives you is the ability to get all the chewy and harmonically rich character you get from a tube preamp, and then switch to a completely flat and faithful reproduction of your bass's tone.
This dual personality makes the Groove 800 incredibly versatile. When you engage the tube section, you get that warm, musical compression and harmonic saturation that makes notes bloom and sustain beautifully. It's perfect for genres where you want that organic, vintage character. Hit the pure switch, and you're instantly transported to a completely transparent, studio-monitor-like experience where every detail of your bass and effects chain comes through with pristine clarity.
The EQ section is thoughtfully designed with frequencies specifically chosen for bass guitar, making it easy to dial in your sound whether you're going for deep, thunderous lows or cutting midrange presence, and the effects loop allows you to use time-based or modulation effects after the preamp section for optimal results.
This is a great amp if you want one amp that does everything. It's particularly excellent if you double on electric and acoustic bass, as the pure mode provides the transparency that acoustic instruments demand, while the tube mode gives electric bass that extra character and warmth.
Beyond all of its flexibility, you can get great tones out of the Groove 800 wherever your music takes you, making it an ideal choice for the working bassist who needs reliability and versatility in one compact, powerful package.
The perfect combination of classic and modern, the GR Groove series will surprise you with its quality and incredible power and an incredible tube preamp with 2 pcs 12AX7.
The Groove series takes up and perfects the philosophy of pure sound, a fundamental characteristic of GR products, with the possibility of adding the characteristic sound only valves can give you.
A 4-band equalizer will allow you to sculpt the sound according to your needs but that’s not all: you can choose 4 frequencies for the mids, and the deep and bright filters will allow you to add punch and / or definition to the equalization.
Through the “PURE” switch you can exclude filters and equalizer and have a completely flat sound to be combined if necessary with an external equalizer, a very useful function when using different instruments in a concert.
Two Aux-Ins, a standard front one that you can listen to directly in the speaker, and one on the back, with an XLR input that will allow you to have this signal only through the headphone output. You can use the Groove as a mixer between you and the PA.
The headphones output has a separate volume control, it also allows an independent monitoring system. The D.I. of GR, recognized as one of the best, is perfect for use in professional contexts both live and in the studio.
