I was looking for a John East Uni Pre to upgrade my bass and Fat Bass Tone had the exact option I needed. Fast shipping and great customer support means I will be back for any future bass needs.
I replaced the Aguilar OBP-3 preamp in my Lakland 55-94 with a Uni-Pre 5-knob. The Uni-Pre install is very straightforward and the only soldering required was to add a 3-way coil selector switch for the MM 5.4 pickup. All components (boards/pots/knobs/packaging/documentation) are premium quality. It does take a while to dial in the lower/upper bass and treble frequencies, but there is a really good guide on Talkbass to get you started: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/the-john-east-preamp-club.984491/page-44#post-27722891. The extended setup time is a small price to pay for such a flexible preamp. I'm very satisfied and I'd put this preamp at the top of the list for any custom build going forward.
I get the unipre as an upgrade for a harley benton bass.
I read the specs of some preamps and i ended up choosing it because of the shaping options and the quality and i did a great choice, this pre is amazing it upgraded the sound of my bass far above its price class . The tone, the playability, the sustain, everything that was lacking is now there, and the pasive sound is so natural, ad to this the shaping options, and ofcourse it fitted perfect. Also id like to thank Max for answering my questions about the pre. i like the fact that here in FBT they know very well what they are selling
The sales team at Fat Bass Tone were awesome! I was able to get the preamp that I wanted at a great price! Thank you so much and I’m looking forward to purchasing again in the very near future!
The East pre is very easy to set up and sounds fantastic. Be aware that the bushings on the stacked pots need 10mm holes. My Lakland had 8.5mm holes. A little time with a few round files and everybody is happy.
