HUM-CANCELLING
This pickup is designed to sound as close as possible to our NJ4 single coil model, providing a similar clarity and full bottom end that compliments its genuine growl. Its interactive and resonant qualities are derivative of its hum-canceling design, making it a pickup that is great for noisy live situations in that its uncompromising shimmer will stand out in the mix.
This pickup's tonal origins lie in yet another case of beast-based tonal transference. Beloved shop dog and connoisseur of all things bouncy and well rounded, Hooper Nordstrand, is essentially the soul that this pickup's sound represents. In the case of both Hooper and the NJ4SV, the player's first impression of either phenomenon might be one of naiveté and simplistic nature. However, player be warned! For each of these entities hold a kind of power that has the ability to focus its strength through any fixture that provides stimulation—perhaps a ball, or in the case of the pickup, a totally rad but loud and rowdy venue. Just as Hooper holds to the name of his breed by retrieving any ball fetched, the NJ4SV will never fail to retrieve the presence of your tone in any live setting that proves to be a tad too noisy.

Likely one of the closest-to-vintage sounding hum-cancelling j bass pickups available. These pickups have a tight, yet full mid range, with a tight top end. The neck shines with a warm pillowy tone. Low end is not overly large.
Put on a good set of headphones and check out the audio demo below to hear it for yourself.
As always, keep in mind that these are generalizations. Your experience could be different depending on many factors.
My 20 year old Carvin Bass had a stock Carvin MM humbucker and Jbass pickup with their stock preamp. I installed a NJSV in the neck (thanks max for splitting up the set!) and Nordstrand quad coil MM4.4 at the bridge with a Trickfish Flex Core 4 band preamp. I'm blown away by the clarity and range of sound I can get out of this setup. Max even included a schematic to coil split the MM4.4 with a 3 way switch. Excellent service and communication. Fatbasstone.com is the best!
These pickups replaced the stock pickups in a Fender American Professional Jazz bass. Being a lifelong Precision and Stingray player, the hum inherent in a standard jazz bass configuration was very unfamiliar. The tone of these is tight, punchy, and I really like being able to blend the pickups with no hum! Also, very fast service from the people at FatBassTone. Got to love a shop specializing in bass!
I bought these to replace the stock pickups in my Lakland Skyline DJ-4. These are super quiet and sound just like Jazz pickups should. Highly recommended if you are looking for hum cancelling Jazz pickups that have punch and growl.
Excellent pickups. With the neck pickup fully on and the bridge pickup turned down a quarter turn, you get a nice warm, full P bass-like tone. The other settings yield typical Jazz bass sounds but without the hum. Highly recommended. Fralin Jazz bass pickups also sound great, but on my ash body bass with a rosewood fretboard, I just preferred the Nordstrands.
