DESCRIPTION

The Bartolini 8S is a Precision-style split-coil pickup from their Original Series. This means it is one of the pickups that remains most faithfully true to Bill Bartolini's groundbreaking designs. As such, when you drop this pickup into your instrument, you can immediately expect a hefty, unmistakable dose of that famous, deep "Bartolini Growl." This is not a polite, scooped, or sterile-sounding clone; it’s a thick, highly assertive pickup built to dominate the stage.

Tonally, the 8S is defined by its incredibly prominent, aggressive low-mid and high-mid frequencies. It is intentionally highly mid-focused across the entire midrange spectrum, which gives your individual notes an incredible amount of physical heft, heavy weight, and undeniable authority. This specific frequency curve is exactly what makes the 8S work so flawlessly within the context of a dense, modern live band.

If you are playing in a group that features heavy, distorted rhythm guitars, a busy keyboard player, or even three competing guitarists, it is incredibly easy for a traditional bass to completely disappear into the sonic mud. With the 8S, you can rest assured that your bass will always effortlessly find its distinct space in the mix. Your fundamental grooves will support the band, while your mid range articulation will clearly punch right through the noise. If you have been constantly struggling to get your standard P-Bass heard clearly on stage or fighting with the sound engineer for more presence, you absolutely need to give these Bartolinis a try.

While it sounds phenomenal passive, this pickup design also works incredibly well when paired with an active onboard preamp. An active circuit really lets you expand the already massive tonal range of the 8S, giving you even more snap and deep, low frequency extension.

The Bartolini 8S delivers a rich and aggressive midrange cut that working bassists need to survive on a loud gig. Swap out your stock pickups for the Bartolini 8S, completely revitalize your workhorse P Bass, and finally command your sonic space.

From Bartolini

The original Bartolini design gives you the timeless tone that started it all – full and warm for that vintage voice you've been craving, enhancing the natural voice of your bass. These split coil pickups are hum-cancelling, so they are well suited for studio or stage. They have a blade core design, so you don’t have to worry about string alignment. Original Barts bring out your voice, low and clear.

In the early ‘70s, Bill Bartolini leveraged his deep knowledge of acoustics to create pickups that produce the most natural, musical voice from the instrument. He added shielding to block radio signals and noise. He developed a method of sealing, isolating, and stabilizing the coils so they could be encapsulated in epoxy to eliminate “microphonics” – the nasty noise you get when you touch typical pickups.

WHAT IS THE TONE OF THE BARTOLINI 8S BASS PICKUP?

From Bartolini’s original deep tone series, the 8S gives us the classic Bartolini tone…Strong lows with a slightly rolled off top end. The lows are tight and not as wooly as the 8SU, with a less scooped mid range. If you are a player looking to hear the difference between the 8S and the 8SU, the major scale clips could be a great place to begin your focus. The 8S sounds a bit softer in the low end…almost a bit more direct. It has has a slightly sweeter, and slightly more forward upper mid and top end.

Put on a good set of headphones and check out the audio demo below to hear it for yourself.

As always, keep in mind that these are generalizations. Your experience could be different depending on many factors.

Bartolini 8S Original Precision Pickup

I’ll start this review by stating how much I truly enjoy purchasing from Fat Bass Tone. Max and Brian are so helpful and responsive. Great selection, fair prices, and fast shipping. What more do you need?

What I truly like and respect about Bartolini is they don’t try to duplicate other pickups makers sound. They put their own twist and tone into their pickups. The 8S packs a deep low end, nice mid-range, and subtle highs. They are noiseless, with no exposed pole pieces. Easy to install and work perfectly with my Darkglass Preamp. Thank you Fat Bass Tone. Customer for life.
