DESCRIPTION

Luce, which means "light" in Italian, is a studio-quality, transformer-based tube DI (Direct Injection) box; a unity-gain (1:1) tube preamplifier and active summing unit.

The main purpose of a DI box is to convert an unbalanced, high-impedance instrument signal into a balanced, low-impedance signal — allowing long cable runs without interference and enabling direct connection to a mixing console or studio interface.

Beyond that, Luce also provides an additional unbalanced output that benefits from the tube circuit, plus an active summing stage that allows two instruments to be connected at once.

All in a compact, pedalboard-friendly format.

Inside the Luce, you’ll find one high-quality, low-noise ECC88/6922 tube and one OEP/Carnhill audio transformer, just like those found in legendary British consoles.

CONTROLS & FEATURES

Right Side

  • IN: 1/4”(6.3 mm) buffered mono instrument input that feeds the Luce
  • SUM: Engaging this switch turns the THRU jack into a second buffered input, summing both signals together
  • THRU: 1/4”(6.3 mm) copy of the INPUT signal; it can be used also as a tuner out. When the SUM switch is pressed in, the THRU jack becomes an additional buffered input: you can use it to sum a stereo signal to mono or connect two different instruments

Left Side:

  • OUT: 1/4”(6.3 mm) tube-driven output of the Luce

DI Out Side

  • 9VDC: The Luce can be powered by a standard 9V centre-negative power supply. Because of to the analog tube circuitry, use a high-quality regulated power supply capable of minimum 400 mA.
  • The Luce cannot be phantom powered.

PAD: Attenuates the input signal by -10 dBm. Engage if you experience unwanted saturation with high-output or line-level sources

LIFT: Reduces or eliminates hum/noise on the DI output by interrupting ground loops

DI OUT: Balanced XLR output, transformer-coupled placed after the full tube circuit.

Truly musical DI

The LUCE is a beautifully transparent and musical DI. It doesn’t drastically change your tone, it enhances it. My passive P-Bass immediately felt more alive, with rounder lows and a more organic response under the fingers.

The improvement is subtle but inspiring. Excellent build quality and completely quiet at normal playing levels. Highly recommended.

Fantastic DI and tone sweetener

I am running this at the end of my pedal board, either after a Jad Freer Capo, or after a Darkglass Anagran when more effects etc are needed. It really is fantastic and adds some magic to my tone.
