DESCRIPTION

EMG's secret sauce in P2 shape. This is a slightly different design which has a more open, larger magnetic field for sensing the strings. In practice, what this does is give you a more dynamic and harmonically rich pickup compared to the traditional design. So it retains a lot of that EMG character with its onboard preamp. Super low noise and wide frequency range, but it sounds more organic and touch sensitive.

The E5W features a unique magnetic circuit design that expands the sensing field beyond what traditional soapbar pickups offer. This wider aperture captures more string harmonics and overtones, giving you a richer, more complex tone. The result is a pickup that responds more dynamically to your playing technique, whether you're playing fingerstyle, with a pick, or slapping.

The onboard preamp maintains EMG's signature low-noise performance while providing the extended frequency response that modern players demand. The lows are tight and controlled, the mids are present and articulate, and the highs are clear without being harsh. This balanced frequency response makes the E5W versatile enough to work across multiple genres.

If you are somebody who really likes different techniques, who really changes from pick to fingerstyle to slap and everything in between, and really likes the tone of your bass to be well represented, then this is a really good option for you. It has a different design than the traditional EMG 40DC, and it's a great voice that is very complimentary and just really musical overall.

The P2 shape fits most 5-string basses with soapbar routing, making it a versatile upgrade option for many instruments. Installation is straightforward thanks to EMG's solderless wiring system, which includes everything you need for a complete installation.

The touch sensitivity is particularly noteworthy; light playing yields a warm, rounded tone, while digging in produces a more aggressive, punchy sound. This dynamic range gives you expressive control over your tone without needing to adjust your amp or pedals.

The EMG E5W delivers that EMG reliability and consistency with a more organic character that responds beautifully to your playing dynamics. Whether you're recording in the studio or performing live, the E5W gives you the tonal flexibility and dynamic response that modern bass playing demands.

From EMG:

EMG's new E-Series E5W Pickup features the commonly used slim soapbar cap design. Unlike any other EMG design, the E-Series E4W features wide aperture coils with ceramic magnets, delivering powerful low end while retaining the articulation modern bass player requires. The E Series pickups unlock a multitude of bass models for simple, drop-in EMG upgrades.

The E-Series pickups were designed for modern bass players seeking a full, powerful sound from a pickup in a slim soapbar housing. “W” refers to a wide magnet and coil stack design. These pickups are unique in having a large string detection area, and this contributes to a distinctly broad EQ response with hefty low-end and a “thunderous” attack.

Designed with versatility in mind, the E-Series can excel in a wide range of genres and playing styles. Just like all EMG active pickups, the E Series are free from hum and buzz, and include solderless wiring kits for simple, DIY installation.
