The Leo Quan Badass III is the three-hole retrofit bridge for Fender basses. This bridge has been legendary since the 70s when it was developed, because it makes a big impact on the tone of your bass. That's why you've seen it throughout all these decades being put in all sorts of high-end basses and also used by bass legends like Geddy Lee and Mike Dirnt.
This bridge is specifically designed for Fender basses with a three-hole mounting pattern. Before you buy, check your bass to make sure it has three screws holding the bridge to the body, not five. If your bass has a five-hole mounting pattern, you'll want the Badass II instead.
The goal of the Leo Quan Badass III is to increase sustain, punch, snap, and clarity. It achieves this by alleviating the common energy loss found in most stock bridges. The high-mass design and direct energy transfer mean that more of your string's vibration goes directly into the body of your bass.
The Badass III goes a step further than previous versions by including saddles that are pre-grooved, allowing for string spacing from 17.5mm to 21mm.
To install, remove your strings, then the three screws securing your current bridge. Replace the bridge, install the new screws and your strings, and you're good to go. No drilling, no routing, no modifications needed.
The Leo Quan Badass III Bass Bridge is manufactured in the USA and is made from die-cast zinc. It measures 3.25" long by 2.13" wide. It's available in Chrome, Black, Gold, and Nickel finishes to match your bass's hardware. The bridge includes mounting screws and an Allen wrench for adjusting the saddle height.
If you're looking for a replacement bridge that has high mass, rock-solid feel, and incredibly high precision for intonation, this is it. It will make a difference in your tone, it will improve your intonation, and it will be super easy to install since it's a direct retrofit. Give it a try for your next Fender upgrade project.
Also, we used it in our dirt cheap bass upgrade project, read the article here to learn more on how it improved our test bass.
From Allparts (makers of the Badass Bridges):
Love the Badass II but have a Fender® bass with a 3 hole screw mount? The BA III Bass Bridge has been made for you! About a decade and a half ago, Glen Quan released this bass bridge to players an option if their bass didn’t have a 5 hole mounting pattern. Some of the basses that this bridge was intended to retrofit include: Fender® American Deluxe, Artist, Custom Shop, Deluxe American, Classic Zone Jazz & Precision. Players can just look at their bass and see if they have 3 screws holding the bridge to the bass, or 5.
Just like it’s predecessors, (the I and II), the goal of the Leo Quan Badass III Bass Bridge is to increase sustain, punch, snap and clarity. It achieves this by alleviating the common energy loss found in most stock bridges.
The III goes a step further and includes saddles that are pre-grooved, allowing for installation to be done by most players. Remove your strings, then the 3 screws securing your current bridge. Replace the bridge, install the new screws and your strings, and you are good to go.
