DESCRIPTION

Routing Templates for a variety of common pickup shapes.

Jazz Bass®, Precision Bass®, Music Man®, and Soapbar shape routing templates are produced by Nordstrand Audio on their laser cutter.

Approximate Size of Acrylic:
4" [101.6mm] Length
6" [152.4mm] Wide
.19" [4.8mm] Thick

Xtender shape routing templates are produced by Delano Pickups.

Approximate Size of Acrylic:
3.9" [100mm] Length
6.2" [160mm] Wide
.2" [5mm] Thick

Dimensions of the pickup route are slightly larger than the actual pickup by 1-2mm. This allows for very slight variations in manufacturer sizing, and also allows proper height adjustment for pickups.

NOTE: Always test-fit your pickup in the routing template before routing your bass.

Templates thinner than standard, don't use unless you have a router table

I ordered these expecting them to be the standard depth of jigs as used by most suppliers, but they are half as thick. Unless you have a router table, I wouldn't use these as using a hand router is extremely sketchy at best.

I used a spacer to get the depth right and the flexibility of this jig (possibly also some user error) caused it to skip out, destroy the jig and the guitar body that I'd been working on for weeks. I won't be buying templates from here again unless the explicitly state the thickness.

Template thickness is listed with the other dimensions in the descriptions.

Pickup templates from Stew Mac, or templates from LMI (when they existed), are of similar thickness....and there is a reason: When designing the templates and considering thickness, a company like Delano or Nordstrand (the makers of all of our templates) are usually cutting these templates with a laser...For most laser, this is not possible to do at thicker dimensions. Thicker templates done with CNC machining ultimately become too costly to produce.

For future users --> Common practive is to use a router bit that is short (1/4') to avoid chipping out wood on the surface of the body on the first couple router passes. The thickness of the router template is inconsequential in that case.
