The Bartolini P252J 5-String 2J Squared Quad Coil Bass Pickup delivers the flexibility of two Jazz Bass-style pickup structures inside a single P2 soapbar housing. Built around Bartolini's popular 9J pickup design, the P252J offers three distinct wiring voices: a big, growling series humbucker, a fat and focused parallel humbucker, and the articulate response of a coil-cut Jazz Bass-style pickup. All three configurations are hum-cancelling.
For players looking to expand the tonal possibilities of a 5-string bass without changing the familiar soapbar format, the P252J offers an unusually flexible solution. Its blade-style sensing accommodates a range of string spacings, while shielded construction helps keep unwanted noise under control. Bartolini offers separately voiced neck and bridge versions, making it easy to choose the right pickup for your installation or build a complementary pair.
Bartolini's 2J Squared design combines two passive, hum-cancelling Jazz Bass pickup structures in one soapbar enclosure. The four-coil arrangement provides several wiring possibilities, from a high-output series sound to a more open parallel response or clear coil-cut tone.
The pickup uses blade-style sensing rather than individual exposed polepieces, with internal shielding and a shielded cable to help minimize electrical interference. Bartolini voices the neck and bridge versions separately for balanced performance when used together.
P252J-B — Neck Only
Neck-position pickup with Bartolini's neck-specific voicing.
DC Resistance: Approximately 6.7 kΩ per inline coil pair
Resonant Frequency: Approximately 6.3 kHz
Manufacturer UPC: 682384502891
P252J-T — Bridge Only
Bridge-position pickup with Bartolini's bridge-specific voicing.
DC Resistance: Approximately 7.4 kΩ per inline coil pair
Resonant Frequency: Approximately 6.4 kHz
Manufacturer UPC: 682384502884
String Sensing Width: 2.36"–2.99" (60–76 mm) for either version.
The blade-style sensing design accommodates a range of string spreads. Measure the outer-string spacing directly above the intended pickup position to confirm compatibility.
Important: Each option is one individual pickup, not a matched set. Select the correct position before ordering.
Series Humbucker: Big, growling sound with high output. A strong choice when you want a full, assertive bass tone.
Parallel Humbucker: Fat and round with focused definition, similar in character to a Jazz Bass with both pickups turned up.
Coil-Cut: Clear, precise Jazz Bass-style response for a more articulate voice.
All three configurations are designed to cancel hum. An appropriately wired switch can provide access to multiple sounds, but a switch is not required if you prefer one fixed wiring configuration.
