The Delano SBC5 HE/S family brings Delano's soapbar pickup designs to 5-string basses, with dual-coil and quad-coil configurations available in two different housing formats.
The SBC5 HE/S and SBC5 HE/S-E are precision-engineered dual-coil humbuckers. Delano describes their tone as combining a tight, full bottom end with articulate mids, a wide-open top end, rich harmonics and seamless low-B string integration. They perform equally well in passive instruments or combined with onboard active electronics.
The SBC5 HE/S-4 expands the platform with a quad-coil design. Delano specifically designed it to retain the big, dimensional SBC5 HE/S sound while adding additional hum-free wiring and coil-sensing options, including P-cross coil style configurations.
Choosing between the models: The SBC5 HE/S is the standard dual-coil version. The SBC5 HE/S-E uses the same underlying pickup technology in the larger SBC-E housing with 2-point mounting. The SBC5 HE/S-4 uses the standard SBC5 housing with a quad-coil design for additional switching possibilities.

In series, we hear a very transparent pickup. Quite clear, these capture the acoustic sound of the bass well.
Wired in parallel, we hear a nice bloom to the notes. Slappers will enjoy this pickup, as it has crisp extended highs. Tonally, quite clear, and has Delano’s well known articulation.
The SBC5 HE/S-4 adds additional coil and switching possibilities while retaining the core SBC5 HE/S sound.
