DESCRIPTION

The Delano Sonar 3-Band active onboard preamp is specifically designed to give you massive tonal flexibility without ever hijacking or dramatically changing your instrument's natural voice. Many aftermarket preamps impose their own heavily colored sonic footprint onto your signal.

The Sonar 3-Band takes the exact opposite approach. It is an incredibly transparent, high-fidelity circuit that simply takes the inherent tone of your pickups and gives you the powerful tools to shape it for any room, stage, or recording studio.

Let’s say you have a passive bass that sounds absolutely perfect on its own, but the moment you get on stage, you realize it needs just a little bit more midrange punch to effectively poke out through a dense, heavy mix. Or perhaps you are playing a reggae or R&B gig and just want a much larger, more foundational low-end without things getting muddy. Maybe you need precise control over how you boost or perfectly tailor your highest treble frequencies for a modern slap tone. The Delano Sonar 3-Band allows you to effortlessly do all of those things directly from your instrument, while completely preserving the core character of your bass.

This is the perfect drop-in preamp for gigging and session bass players who already love the way their bass sounds, but simply need immediate, granular control to make it fit into rapidly changing musical contexts. As you would expect from any premium component manufactured by Delano in Germany, this circuit is built with the absolute highest quality parts and the utmost attention to detail.

It features an exceptionally low noise floor, making it ideal for critical studio tracking or running through high-gain pedalboards without introducing unwanted hiss. Furthermore, it is genuinely one of those rare, beautifully voiced preamps that you have a very hard time making sound bad. The frequency centers are chosen so musically that no matter how drastically you turn the EQ knobs, it is always going to sound like your bass, just with a lot more of it.

If you want to upgrade your electronics to a truly professional standard, gain total command over where you sit in the mix, and keep your instrument's fundamental voice, the Delano Sonar 3-Band preamp is a great choice.

From Delano

As an integral part of any active bass guitar, an active EQ has to fulfill countless requirements regarding strength and clarity in tone, power consumption and installation. To meet this challenge perfectly, the time has come for a new onboard preamp: Sonar.

This smart powerhouse delivers the real thing: rocksteady bottom, cutting midrange and naturally brilliant high end. Whether adapting its tone to match the surrounding acoustics, enhancing versatility or increasing your musical expression, this preamp always feels like a natural extension, preserving all the benefits of passive operation: uncoloured, true and focused sound. Comparing the flat-set sound to bypassed full passive action you´ll detect no difference. Matchless. And with its perfectly matched band-pass filters and separated amplifier stages, adjustments stay predictable at any time without overpowering tone.

The Delano Sonar onboard preamp is housed in a sealed slim-box, which provides easy, space-saving installation and secure insulation to other electrical components. Its minimal power consumption lets you forget where your battery-box is.

Understanding the differences between the 3, 3MS and 3MS/E:

• The 3 has a fixed midrange at 500Hz.
• The 3MS has selectable midrange of 300, 500 or 800Hz on the preamp module.
• The 3MS/E has selectable midrange of 300, 500 or 800Hz on a switch.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the shaft size for the pots on a Delano Sonar preamp?

Sonar preamps have 6mm shafts. If drilling your own holes, probably use a 7mm drill to bore an ‘ideal size’ mounting hole.

Great upgrade!

This very much made my bass come alive. It's much more punchy and vibrant. This is def. a recommended OBP.

Finally getting the tone I want

Bought this to replace a Bartolini preamp that just never worked right. The midrange frequency selector is great for flexibility and lets me do more to boost the mids that I want to boost. The only negative is that my bass is too thin to use the included active/passive pull pot. This isn’t something strictly about my bass and not the supplied part, though, since my tech couldn’t find any alternative that would have worked in its place. Definitely a great and versatile preamp option.

Great product, fast shipping

I really like the Delano Sonar 3 preamp. It was shipped quickly and it was not a difficult install. I've bought 2 of these and put them in an Ibanez and a Lakland. I would buy again.

Delano Sonar 3MS/E

Excellent preamp. I put it in my Ibanez SR1346B bass since the original preamp was getting noisy and I never thought it was that great to begin with. Paired with set of Aguilar DCB pickups it sounds absolutely great! Very transparent. With all controls set flat I can't tell the difference between active and passive mode. Great service from Fat Bass Tone.

Sonar 3

A most excellent 3 band pre with toggle switch selectable 300/500/800hz mids. Matched with Delano SBC quad coil soapbars mounted in a 93 Carvin LB76 6 string. After many years of great service I replaced the Aguilar OBP3 pre with the Sonar. The 300/500/800 give me more flexibility over the 400/800 of the Agular. I also have a 2nd Carvin LB76 with original Carvin J style humbuckers and the Delano Sonar 3. Dead quiet and very transparent, a wide selection of tones to choose from. I run both at 18v for the extra headroom. Perfect for any style, funk, slap, dance, R&B, rock, metal. This pre covers it!
