Living up to its name, the DiMarzio Colossal™ is a high-output 5-string soapbar that combines huge dynamic range with a detailed, open response. Play softly and it retains air and definition; dig in with slap or an aggressive pick attack and it responds with significantly more authority.
The Colossal™ uses a fully humbucking, completely shielded design with Neodymium magnets and a radiused metal cover. Its EMG40®-sized housing makes it a compelling upgrade for basses using this common 5-string soapbar format. Choose the dedicated Bridge or Neck model in either Black or Gold.
The four-conductor design allows series, parallel, or split-coil wiring, and the pickups can also be combined with active electronics. DiMarzio's Quick Connect cable system simplifies installation.
Bridge - Black: DP431 Colossal™ Bridge pickup with Black Metal Cover.
Bridge - Gold: DP431 Colossal™ Bridge pickup with Gold Cover.
Neck - Black: DP430 Colossal™ Neck pickup with Black Metal Cover.
Neck - Gold: DP430 Colossal™ Neck pickup with Gold Cover.
Building a set? Order one Bridge and one Neck pickup in your preferred finish. DiMarzio winds the bridge pickup hotter than the neck pickup so the two positions balance better when used together.
The Colossal™ has a detailed, growling midrange with plenty of note definition and openness. The highs stay precise without becoming harsh, while the low end remains tight and powerful. DiMarzio specifically designed the pickup to work well with dropped tunings.
The Bridge model has more output and additional high-mid emphasis than the Neck model. DiMarzio rates the Bridge at 230 output and the Neck at 200, helping maintain a better volume match when the two pickups are blended.
The Colossal™ uses an EMG40®-sized soapbar housing. Bridge and Neck models use the same external dimensions.
