DESCRIPTION

The EMG E6W brings EMG’s wide-aperture design into the larger P4 soapbar format. By using an expanded magnetic sensing area, this pickup captures more of the string’s vibration than traditional soapbar designs. The result is a tone that feels open, detailed, and harmonically rich, while still delivering EMG’s signature clarity, consistency, and ultra-low noise through its onboard active preamp.

The E6W’s magnetic structure is designed to sense a broader section of the string, allowing more harmonics and overtones to come through naturally. This wider magnetic window gives the pickup a fuller, more three-dimensional sound and makes it highly responsive to changes in playing technique. Fingerstyle, pick playing, and slap all translate clearly and accurately.

EMG’s integrated preamp provides a powerful, clean output with an extended frequency range suited for modern bass tones. The low end is tight and authoritative, the midrange remains defined and articulate, and the highs are clear without becoming sharp or brittle. This balanced voicing makes the E6W adaptable to a wide range of musical styles and performance environments.

If you’re a player who values dynamics and expression, the E6W excels. Compared to more traditional EMG soapbar pickups, it offers a slightly more open and organic response while maintaining the punch and focus EMG is known for. It’s an excellent choice for bassists who want their technique and touch to directly shape their sound.

The P4 housing is commonly used on 6-string basses with soapbar routing, making the E6W a flexible upgrade option for many instruments. Installation is quick and straightforward thanks to EMG’s solderless wiring system, which includes all necessary components for a clean, professional install.

Touch sensitivity is a standout feature of the E6W. Playing lightly produces a smooth, rounded tone, while digging in reveals added attack and punch. This wide dynamic range allows for expressive control without relying heavily on external EQ, compression, or effects.

The EMG E6W in P4 shape combines EMG’s proven reliability and silent operation with a more responsive, player-driven character. Whether in the studio or on stage, it delivers the tonal flexibility, clarity, and dynamic performance demanded by modern 6-string bass players.

From EMG:

EMG's new E-Series E5W Pickup features the commonly used slim soapbar cap design. Unlike any other EMG design, the E-Series E4W features wide aperture coils with ceramic magnets, delivering powerful low end while retaining the articulation modern bass player requires. The E Series pickups unlock a multitude of bass models for simple, drop-in EMG upgrades.

The E-Series pickups were designed for modern bass players seeking a full, powerful sound from a pickup in a slim soapbar housing. “W” refers to a wide magnet and coil stack design. These pickups are unique in having a large string detection area, and this contributes to a distinctly broad EQ response with hefty low-end and a “thunderous” attack.

Designed with versatility in mind, the E-Series can excel in a wide range of genres and playing styles. Just like all EMG active pickups, the E Series are free from hum and buzz, and include solderless wiring kits for simple, DIY installation.

Great replacement for Ibanez EHB 5-string multiscale

This size is perfect for the Ibanez EHB 5-string multiscale. The pickup offers great tone and a significant improvement over the stock one! I paired it up with the BQC preamp. The installation was straightforward and very clean, requiring no modifications. I was able to reuse the stock battery box, output jack, and knobs.
