DESCRIPTION

The EMG PX is a pretty different sounding pickup than the traditional EMG P active pickup. The main difference is that although it retains a lot of the punch and high output, it has a wider bandwidth with lower lows and higher highs, but with a very interesting voicing where it has lots of low-mid weight, so it sounds big, heavy, and powerful.

This is a different design of onboard integrated preamp compared to the EMG P. The X Series preamp offers increased touch sensitivity and dynamic range, helping to bridge the gap between passive and active pickups. It isn't as compressed, so it sounds more organic.

What this gives us in practice is that this PX pickup doesn't get lost in the mix due to its low-mid content. It has lots of attack and can sound super aggressive because of its high-mid and extended upper high range. The ceramic magnets coupled deliver brilliant high-end articulation and incredible low-end punch. It works great with low tunings because its lows naturally reach lower than what a traditional vintage passive P-Bass pickup would give you.

The tone is focused on the low-mids, giving you that thick, beefy sound that cuts through dense arrangements.

The increased dynamic range is quite noticeable when digging in. It's slightly compressed, but less so than the classic EMG P.

This is a great pickup if you're looking for extra punch, if you're tuning your bass lower, or if you're looking for lots of definition. If you use a pick or play aggressive styles, this is a really great pickup for you. The superior dynamics make it respond wonderfully to different playing techniques, from fingerstyle to slap to pick attack.

Installation is straightforward thanks to EMG's solderless wiring system, which includes everything you need: volume pot, active tone pot, battery bus, stereo output jack, mounting screws, and all necessary cables.

Made in California, USA, and available in Black, Ivory, and White, the EMG PX delivers a wide sonic palette that works great for all styles of music in the studio or on the stage.

WHAT IS THE TONE OF THE EMG PX PRECISION BASS PICKUP?

A superb P bass tone that is focused on the low mids. EMG fans will dig this pickup, as it high output, clean and warm. Great dynamic range that is quite present when digging in. Slight compressed, as would be expected for active pickups, but with a crisp top end that is very pleasing.

Put on a good set of headphones and check out the audio demo below to hear it for yourself.

As always, keep in mind that these are generalizations. Your experience could be different depending on many factors.
