The Nordstrand Big J-Blade 6 brings the powerful, distinctive character of Nordstrand's continuous blade pickup design to a 6-string Jazz-style housing. Instead of individual magnetic pole pieces, a continuous sensing blade provides a uniform magnetic field across the strings. The result is a responsive single-coil pickup with the aggressive personality and articulation that have made the Big J-Blade family popular among bass players.
Choose between two distinctly different windings. Warm & Wooly (W&W) emphasizes warmth, low-end weight and a pronounced midrange, while Clean & Clear (C&C) offers a brighter, more open response with less midrange emphasis. Both are available separately in neck and bridge positions, so you can replace a single pickup or build your own matched-voicing pair.
IMPORTANT: Each variant includes ONE individual pickup. For a complete two-pickup setup, order one neck pickup and one bridge pickup.

Warm & Wooly (W&W): The fuller, darker voice of the two. Nordstrand rates this winding at 4/10 for tonal brightness and 7/10 for midrange emphasis. Expect a weightier low end, strong mids and a more colored overall character.
Clean & Clear (C&C): A brighter, more balanced alternative. Nordstrand rates this winding at 6/10 for tonal brightness and 5/10 for midrange emphasis. It retains the Big J-Blade's distinctive attack while offering a more open and articulate tonal balance.
Both windings receive an 8/10 dynamics rating from Nordstrand. These ratings are relative descriptions of the pickup voicings, not electrical output measurements.

For a traditional two-pickup arrangement, choose one neck and one bridge pickup. Selecting the same winding for both positions gives you a consistent voicing across the pair.
Neck and bridge fit: Both positions have exactly the same external dimensions and mounting-hole spacing. The single dimension diagram above applies to all four variants.
It is a single-coil pickup. The continuous blade provides uniform magnetic sensing, but it does not make the pickup a humbucker. Single-coil noise may still be present depending on the installation and operating environment.
Warm & Wooly emphasizes warmth, low-end weight and midrange character. Clean & Clear is brighter and more open, with less midrange emphasis. Both use the same basic Big J-Blade single-coil design.
Yes. Nordstrand specifies identical external dimensions for both the neck and bridge versions of the Big J-Blade 6. Both measure 4.500" long with a 0.720" body width. The dimension diagram above applies to both positions and both winding options.
Fit depends on your instrument's pickup cavities and mounting arrangement. Both neck and bridge housings are listed at 4.500" long and 0.720" wide, with a 1.120" overall width across the mounting ears. Measure your existing pickups and cavities before ordering, as 6-string Jazz-style pickups are not universally interchangeable.
The continuous blade avoids the need to align each string directly over an individual pole piece. However, Nordstrand specifies a maximum string spacing of 18mm for the Big J-Blade 6, so we still recommend recommend checking your spacing before installation.
