The Seymour Duncan SJ5-3 Quarter Pound brings the high-output Quarter Pound Jazz Bass® sound to 5-string basses and is available here as a complete set, bridge pickup or neck pickup. Massive 1/4" Alnico 5 rod magnets and hot coil winds deliver high output, strong attack and a full response while retaining the articulation and detailed high end that keeps a Jazz Bass® pickup useful across a wide range of playing styles.
Choose the SJ5-3s Set when replacing both pickups, or select the individual SJ5-3b Bridge or SJ5-3n Neck when you only need one position. The neck pickup is RWRP (reverse wound / reverse polarity), allowing the neck and bridge to cancel hum when used together as a matched pair while retaining true single-coil construction.
Hand built in Santa Barbara, California, the 5-string Quarter Pound Jazz Bass® pickups use 1/4" Alnico 5 rod magnets and Forbon flatwork and are wax potted for squeal-free operation. Each pickup comes with a black cover.
Please note: 5-string Jazz Bass® pickup dimensions are not universal. Seymour Duncan specifically notes that Mexican Standard Jazz Basses use two neck-sized pickups. Compare the dimensions below with both your existing pickup and pickup route before ordering.
1. Set - SJ5-3s
Includes the Quarter Pound neck and bridge pickups. Choose the set when replacing both pickups or when you want the RWRP neck and bridge combination for hum-cancelling operation when both pickups are used together.
2. Bridge - SJ5-3b
Bridge-position Quarter Pound for 5-string Jazz Bass®. Choose this option when replacing only the bridge pickup. Because 5-string Jazz Bass® pickup routes vary, check the bridge dimensions before ordering.
3. Neck - SJ5-3n
Neck-position Quarter Pound for 5-string Jazz Bass®. The neck is RWRP and is designed to cancel hum when paired with the corresponding bridge pickup and both are used together.
Drop-in replacements for most American Standard Jazz Bass® instruments. However, 5-string Jazz Bass® pickup sizes are not standardized across every bass and customers should confirm measurements before purchasing (see below).
Important: Seymour Duncan specifically notes that Mexican Standard Jazz Basses use two neck-sized pickups. Do not assume that your bass requires the larger SJ5-3b bridge pickup simply because you are replacing a bridge-position pickup.
Measure your existing pickup and compare it with the exact neck and bridge dimensions below before ordering.

The SJ5-3 Quarter Pound takes the familiar Jazz Bass® single-coil sound in a bigger, more aggressive direction. The hot coil wind and oversized Alnico 5 pole pieces deliver high output, strong attack and a full, even response with plenty of sustain and authority. Compared with a more traditional vintage-output Jazz Bass® pickup, the Quarter Pound hits harder while retaining articulation and detailed high end.
This is a strong choice for players who like the definition and response of true Jazz Bass® single coils but want substantially more output and a more forceful overall presentation. Choose the complete set for the full matched Quarter Pound setup, or the individual bridge or neck pickup when replacing or upgrading one position.
As always, keep in mind that these are generalizations. Your experience could be different depending on many factors.
