DROP IN REPLACEMENT FOR MUSICMAN® AND SOME OLP
HUM-CANCELLING
ALNICO V MAGNETS
VINTAGE 70's TONE WITH AN EXTENDED RESPONSE
Seymour Duncan has constructed a MM pickup that captures the feel and warmth of the originals. All the vintage 70s MM tone can be found in this version, which uses oversized alnico 5 rod magnets, together with our unique coil windings to deliver an extended response at both the treble and bass ends of the frequency spectrum. Compared with the ceramic version, this pickup is both warmer on the bottom, and more detailed on the top. This is the tone that changed funk, rock, and slap forever.
This pickup is a drop-in replacement for 4-string Music Man Stingray basses. It may fit into OLP instruments as well, but check the dimensions of the pickup against the size of your OLP pickup slot to be sure. Combine with our Music Man replacement preamp for a complete setup. NOTE not for use with Music Man basses that have a 3-way blade switch.
Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, our alnico Music Man replacement pickup uses oversized alnico 5 rod magnets, Forbon flatwork, 4-conductor leadwire, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal free operation.
Size:
3.51” [89.15mm] Long
1.91” [48.51mm] Wide
Duncan’s vintage-type offering for Music Man® is a cool pickup that is quite loud, especially when wired in series. We hear it as bright, aggressive, hot and authoritative. In parallel, the low end retains tightness, and the pleasant scoop to the mid range, with a traditional sounding top end is nice and somewhat familiar to ears that know the MM sound. Great bite and attack to the notes.
Put on a good set of headphones and check out the audio demo below to hear it for yourself.
As always, keep in mind that these are generalizations. Your experience could be different depending on many factors.
I’ve been buying and selling music stuff parts guitars drums bass online since 1998. I tend to judge online retailers harshly by my exacting standards. I never had bad feedback on eBay reverb. Fat Bass Tone is just like me. Perfectionist. Perfect service, communication, fast fast shipping. I WILL buy from them again. These great guys provided me diagrams and I bought a REAL READONABLY PRICED WIRING HARNESS and a SD bass pickup. I do have 45 years experience modding guitars so I know what I’m doing but have never dealt with a musicman pickup. With their excellent support docs, I didn’t have to email or call for advice. Quick install. Perfect performance. Give these gents a chance BEGORE you order anywhere else. I’ll note their shipping is low. The SD pu was same price as at Duncan but I got it about 2 weeks faster than Duncan would get it here for much less shipping dollars. Give Fat Bass Tone a chance…they will earn your business. Also, FBT gave me something you never get from Duncan and rarely get from any music parts dealer. Service after the sale. They emailed to see if I needed help and if the order was ok. An actual partner in this business emailed me. Not a bot. Not a service that would give him the message later. But one of the owners/operators. I haven’t had service like this in decades, been playing 51 years, oh, and I’m a trial lawyer by day and I have pretty exacting standards. And no time to mess around with crap businesses. My highest recommendation and yes, I’ll be needing some more bass stuff soon and I won’t even bother checking anywhere else. They made this Texan a customer for life!!!!!! I’d give 10 gold stars if I could, they’re that cool!
