DESCRIPTION

There’s a reason the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound is one of Duncan’s most popular bass pickups -- massive tone. The 5-string SPB-3 Quarter Pound has a fat, full and punchy sound with tremendous midrange presence and high output. Its oversized quarter-inch diameter Alnico 5 pole pieces expand the magnetic field and extend the frequency response, giving your 5-string P Bass® a powerful voice with plenty of definition and authority.

Though often associated with heavy rock, the Quarter Pound is much more versatile than its high-output reputation might suggest. It delivers a strong fundamental, aggressive midrange presence and clear top end that can work well across rock, funk and other styles where you want your bass to stay present in the mix. The 5-string version extends that powerful response to the low B string.

This pickup is designed as a drop-in replacement for American Standard-style 5-string Precision Bass® instruments. Because 5-string P Bass® routes and string spacing can vary between manufacturers, we recommend comparing the dimensions below with your existing pickup before ordering.

Hand built in Santa Barbara, California, the 5-string Quarter Pound uses massive 1/4" diameter Alnico 5 rod magnets, Forbon flatwork and a high-output coil wind. It is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance and comes with black covers.

WHAT IS THE TONE OF THE SEYMOUR DUNCAN SPB-3 P BASS® PICKUP?

A favorite of rock players seeking high output, the SPB-3 has straightforward lows that do not get too muddy or warm. Rather they remain nice and tight, offering a focused tone. The pickup has a full, strong mid range that can really grind. This is one of the more punchy pickups for precision bass. Top end is definitely present, but not too biting.

Put on a good set of headphones and check out the 4-string Quarter Pound audio demo below to hear the characteristic SPB-3 sound for yourself.

As always, keep in mind that these are generalizations. Your experience could be different depending on many factors.
