I installed the Trickfish J-Core 2 band bass preamp in my ’74 Fender Jazz bass and could not believe the tonal variations now available. The ’74 Jazz was already perfect the way it was but the option to add a very useful 2 band preamp really makes the bass other worldly at this point. The passive function is not an after thought, the passive tone control is staggeringly good sounding. Everything about this drop in preamp is fantastic. The best part about this experience was purchasing it from Fat Bass Tone who are always super helpful and knowledgeable about everything bass wise.

I am convinced that Mike Pope is a preamp wizard. The J-core 2 preamp easy easy to install, and sounds absolutely amazing.

I recently purchased a Trickfish J-Core 2 band drop in preamp, and just finished installing it on my 1990 Japanese Fender Jazz Bass. The Japanese control cavity is a bit more snug than some others I have played and worked on, but the J-Core nestled right in. After playing the bass, I am convinced that Mike Pope is an other-worldly electronic wizard. The preamp is supremely well made, and highly useful in the tone department. I love the organic and transparent sound - which is especially noticeable between active and passive as the preamp does not color the tone like some other preamps out there. This is one of the best upgrades I have done on any jazz bass, and I have been building and modifying bass guitars for over 35 years. I highly recommend this, or any other preamp that Mr. Pope has created.

The J-Core 2 was exactly what my American Original Jazz Bass needed. Along with upgrading to Fralin split jazz noise canceling pickups, the core gives me the output boost I needed over the stock fender set. The EQ is very smooth and musical. The tone control itself is a beast. In most cases I can run bass and treble flat and just adjust the tone control. When I need a treble or bass boost/cut, the moves are usually subtle. Can’t say enough about it. I’ll probably replace my stock fender player plus preamp with J-Core 4. Love it.
