DESCRIPTION

When evaluating Trickfish electronics, it helps to understand their core engineering philosophy. Their primary goal is not to change your tone, but rather to make your instrument sound like the best, most refined version of itself. This is not a heavy-handed preamp that bakes a colored EQ signature into your signal.

What it does is bring out more of the fundamental character that you already love about your bass, while giving you the EQ control to adapt to any musical situation. The J Core provides you with four musical bands of EQ, allowing you to bring forward or pull back precise frequencies depending on the demands of your live mix. If you are battling heavy guitars, you can quickly punch up the low-mids for stage authority. If you are playing a delicate acoustic set, you can roll off the extreme highs for a warm, supportive foundation, and anywhere in between.

Because it requires a side-mounted output jack to accommodate the expanded control layout, this is the perfect drop-in preamp for deluxe-style Jazz Basses. It eliminates the limitations of a standard two-band EQ, giving you command over your midrange, which are the most important frequencies for bass players. You get pristine highs, punchy mids, and a foundational low-end that remains clear and distinct. Built with high-quality components, it features a remarkably low noise floor, ensuring quiet operation even when you boost the treble.

If you are a bassist looking for an onboard preamp that will bring out the best qualities of your core tone while providing a significant amount of added EQ flexibility, you should take a close look at the Trickfish J Core.

From Trickfish

The J-Core preamp takes Trickfish's widely acclaimed Flexcore Onboard Bass Preamp to the next level - now in a hassle-free Jazz Bass plate drop-in design. No modifications, no soldering, just pure performance.

Powered by the incredibly flexible and supremely musical Mike Pope-designed preamp with a 4-band EQ, the J-Core puts tonal control at your fingertips. With internally selectable EQ points for each band and refined signal path enhancements, it’s designed to bring out the best in every note you play.

All this, plus a 9-volt battery, fits neatly into your existing Jazz Bass control cavity. Effortless design meets exceptional sound.

Trickfish has swapped out traditional jumper-style selectors inside the J-Core for intuitive rocker-style mini switches. These make it easier than ever to fine-tune the frequency centers of each of the 4 EQ bands, allowing you to customize the EQ to match your bass’s unique voice and your personal tonal preferences.

With selectable frequencies at 46Hz or 90Hz, 330Hz or 473Hz, 600Hz or 900kHz, and 6kHz or 10kHz, the J-Core offers precise control to shape your sound exactly how you like it. Additional switches allow for 0, 3, 6, or 8 dB of output gain.

A hallmark of a truly versatile Jazz Bass is its passive tone control. Some players prefer a subtle tone roll-off that preserves midrange presence, while others lean toward a darker, more classic passive tone. The J-Core comes stock with a .022 Cap and can be easily customized with an additional through-hole parallel capacitor.

For years, the Flexcore has set the benchmark for players seeking unparalleled fidelity, clarity, and warmth from their active instruments. Until now, however, it wasn’t available as a drop-in replacement for Jazz Basses.

With the J-Core, you can finally bring the renowned flexibility and performance of the Flexcore into the Fender universe — elevating your sound without changing what you love about your instrument.

Trickfish J Flexcore preamp

The preamp is nice but, in my personal preference I liked the John East J Retro Deluxe so much better and have reinstalled it. Nothing against Trickfish at all…as I said just personal preference.😊

Best I Have Used on my Fender Bass

This is hands-down the best preamp I’ve ever installed on my 5-string Fender Jazz Bass. I’ve used several others from well-known brands, but nothing has come close to the tone, clarity, and control this one delivers. I actually love it so much that I’m buying a second one for my other bass. What really sets it apart is the level of customization. You can select different frequency points across the EQ bands, which lets you shape your tone exactly the way you want.

Saved my Bass

I was about to put my Fender American Pro ll in the forgotten closet. I saw Trickfish J-Core 4 Band Bass Preamp for Jazz Bass® and decided to give it a try before the bass walked the Green Mile. After a 20 min install, I was Blow Away! That's not an easy thing to do after installing 2 Mike Pope Flex Core preamps in my Sadowski 5 PJ and Schecter Studio 5.

Thanks again for always only having the Best Bass Gear.

Really Lovin It!

Really Lovinit! It only took 20 minutes to install and plug her up. The tone controls are in a configuration I'm not used too. (easy fix) Sounds really strong and articulate.
