I replaced the stock preamp in my Ibanez SD1605DW with a prewired 5 knob two micro switch Aguilar OBP3. It added so much headroom to this bass it was scary. It went from an anemic preamp to a bold and versatile tone monster. The fact that it came prewired was awesome. The fact that it was almost solderless was even cooler! It made it easy enough. There was some slight and very careful drilling involved to the bass to make the pot holes large enough for the new pots and switches. I utilized the single 9v battery box that was on the bass (I may have the bass routed for another one so I can go 18V) and also utilized the existing switched output jack on the bass as Ibanez has the plug drilled into the body almost like a wooden strat plug. Everything went right into place and once I got the wires tied and the control block stored in the control cavity and the cover back on, I fired it up. MY GOD it was night and day. The bass has aguilar pickups and it brought them to life in a meaningful and major way! The fact that it was all wired up and ready to go was worth the extra dough! This is awesme!!!!

Great sounding preamp , makes a cheap Chinese Sterling Sub bass sound great. Fairly easy install , had to route out the control cavity a little bit to accept all the wiring , local music store had the knobs for the active electronics, i also have the Agiular replacement sterling pickup , highly recommend. this upgrade very happy with the pre amp and pick up.

A good transaction and the custom Aguilar OPB-3 preamp is just waiting to be installed into a project bass.

Previously, I have used a Bass Metaphors pre/direct box to get that extra ooomph. I installed the OBP-3 and it really makes a difference in the bass. i like the extra range on the EQ section and the preamp has a good sound, as well. I was a little worried about the signal being too hot, and the OBP not having a trim pot, but that isn't an issue at all, even at 18V. Currently i have this pre installed in a tradition neck thru (ash) using the Og factory soap bars, Vol, Blend, Mid, B/T, Mfs, APfs.
